Our early work (we began in 1984) made simple statements; our recent work is more complex. We tackle contemporary social issues, and challenge the viewer to respond. We encourage people to pause, look and reflect on their journey through life, its wonder, beauty and the divine mystery.
The exhibitions we have held throughout Victoria have led to exciting and moving exchanges with a wide variety of people. The insights perceived by these people are often far beyond our original intention and we are greatly moved by the way God seems to speak through the fabric art we have created.
We hope our work will encourage all those who, like us, strive to express their faith through the creative use of fabric.
Exhibitions
The exhibitions the group has held throughout Victoria, usually display 40 – 50 works over several days. The works are large, colourful and inspiring, and create a deal of interest. How are these work created? The group seldom sews or glues, and never paints. What do they do? Come and see!
The exhibitions have been held in public buildings and church halls of many denominations, as arranged by a local group who is responsible for publicity and all local arrangements. The Fabric Art Group – usually four women - travel with, and hang the exhibition.
A four hour workshop (BYO lunch included) is usually held in conjunction with the exhibition. Topics covered include how to
- generate ideas,
- use everyday objects as symbols,
- develop a design,
- innovative techniques to create the finished work.
All materials are supplied for the ‘hands on’ segment, and the cost ranges from $25 - $30 per person.
